The house!

We are preparing to go to Paris for the 2010-11 academic year, and would like to rent our beloved house to some trustworthy soul. Here's some information and pictures.

Here's the front of the house. As you can see, it's a one-story bungalow with a nice garden. You probably can't tell that it's in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis. This is a calm, residential area but there are some coffee shops, restaurants and bars within reasonable walking distance, as well as a movie theater. The house is located on a bus line that goes directly to downtown, and it's about a fifteen minute walk to the Hiawatha light rail line at 46th Street. This is an especially great neighborhood for those who like to walk, run, or bike, because we're very close to West River Road and Minnehaha Park.

Here's the living room. The window on the right in the top picture is made of glass block and it's super cool.

(Here you can also see our dog Romeo planning his exciting year abroad in Arden Hills, MN.)

The living room is a long space with hardwood floors that opens onto the dining room.

Here's the kitchen. While it isn't huge, it's a very efficient space that works well for us, and we're somewhat ambitious in the kitchen. Jeff is confiting some canard as I type. There's also a pass-through window from which you can survey the dining and living rooms and throw things at people if necessary.

This house has three bedrooms. All of them have closets. This first one has the biggest closet. The wood paneling gives it a comforting cabin-y ambience.

The middle bedroom is rather small and does not have a door separating it from the hallway. It would be suitable for a rather small person, but if you are too large, you could make it into an office or craft room, as we have.

The back bedroom is about the same size as the first. We use it as a den/office, but it would work as a normal sized bedroom.

So that's the house! I'm not picturing the bathroom because it's pretty small and it's difficult to take a decent photo of it. So no, you cannot have a dance party in there. But it exists and is functional.

Some other things about our house:
  • We could leave some of the furniture in it if desired.
  • Washer, dryer, and clothes lines in the basement.
  • Off-street parking in the back.
  • Fenced backyard with vegetable and flower gardens, fire ring, patio; big vegetable garden on south side of house, so there might still be some edible things for whoever's here and hungry.
  • Central heat and air conditioning
  • Available early September (probably the 7th or 8th? We're still figuring that out) through end of May, 2011.
  • $1,000/month (includes gas bill)
  • We will ask for references before we get into a contract and a security deposit (to be returned at the end if all is well) of one month's rent in advance.
  • Sorry, no cats - they make Jeff sneeze uncontrollably.
